Tuesday pennant practice had 48 players. There will be a practice match against Cobram at Cobram on Friday, October 30 so please put your name down on the list if interested.
Wednesday social bowls had 44 players and the game was 2x4x2.
There was 5 two game winners, coming out on top were the team of Ian Morffew and one of the new up and coming players in Lyn Baxter with a +9.
Runners up from the loser were Billy Butterfield and Ben Nowell and super sub Danny McNeill with +15.
Making a welcome return to social bowls was Peter ”Wrong Bais” Wallace with a nine month lay-off. He hit the green running and was instrumental in defeating one of the days favorites combinations in Claire Sanders and Garry Hart.
Another stat that came out of the days bowls, if you need to score an 8 to win the game on the last end and you drop an eight…. well.
This happened to Bob Evans and Terry Baxter; in the past 3 weeks Terry has dropped two 8’s on the last end, so if you are looking to score a maximum make sure you draw Terry’s team on the last game (you will have a good chance), observably wife Lyn has Terry covered on the green.
Jackpot was shared by Cat and Jan Harmasso and Siggi Rempel and Don Ellis. Lucky numbers was won by Ben Nowell and the Yarrawonga raider Richard Hermasso (all the prize money he is winning from the club we hope the tax man doesn’t find out.)
Thursday night the club had a visitor from Barooga in Ray Emerson giving a talk about the mental and physical aspects on approaching a game of bowls. He also spoke about what he excepted on training nights and also what is required of all the different positions in the team.
The talk went for about an hour and a half (Barooga have won the last 3 premierships in the Murray League) and about 35 players attended with everybody having a great night.
It was good to get a different outlook to the game from a player with so much experience and success.
A bit of housekeeping: Saturday we have a practice match against Corowa RSL at Corowa, names required by Thursday 3pm.
The Ovens & Murray State games are now in progress, the novice competitions will be closing next week on November 6.
It would be great to see all of Anne’s Sunday gang take this opportunity to try out their newly developed skills (believe me you are all good enough to give it a go).
First round will be on November 12.
The State Triples also close on the 6th and their first game will be November 15.
Hot off the wire, Ray Irvine, Greg Green and Mick Reilly have defended their triples crown at the McGrillen Triples at Berrigan; well done boys.
