THERE are a few changes at the Mathoura General Store.
Since coming under new management in May, the Livingston St business has expanded its range of groceries and fresh produce and added a few new ranges.
The only thing that has not changed, according to new owner Tom Weyrich, is the commitment to the local community.
‘‘All four staff members are from Mathoura, with most of them having grown up here,’’ he said.
‘‘Annette Shelton is the store manager, and there’s also Tara Alderton, Karen Starkey and Debbie Eagleton.
‘‘They are the nucleus of this place and because we are all locals, our focus is on supporting locals.’’
Added to the store in recent months has been a small range of hardware, flowers, plants and garden ornaments, as well as a new eat-in area.
There has also been a fresh coat of paint, and Mr Weyrich said there were some other exciting changes still to come.
‘‘In the new year, we have plans to start offering a takeaway food service, things like fish and chips,’’ he said.
‘‘But first and foremost, we are a convenience store and people can come in for their groceries and fruits and vegetables each day of the week.
‘‘Things have been a little tumultuous since the changeover in management because of coronavirus; the whole town has missed out on some of the bigger tourism periods already.
‘‘We can only hope this will settle down soon and we can start to move forward again.’’
The Mathoura General Store is at 24B Livingstone St and is open is open 7am to 6pm daily.
