Saturday's Murray League game against Congupna played out similarly to the Eagles’ opening match against Moama, with the Road, just like the Magpies, running rampant in the fourth quarter.
Kicking nine goals to one on their home ground of Memorial Park, the Road delivered United a brutal 82-point lesson.
But with its young and improving group, the Eagles has shown glimpses it is working towards stringing together a full four-quarter performance in coming weeks.
And it's the first three quarters against Congupna, United coach Adam Sutherland wants his team to focus on.
“The game was a clear step up in intensity and class from the week before,” Sutherland said.
“And we put in a significantly better performance up to three-quarter-time.
“For us, it's a work in progress, and we took significant strides in certain areas.”
“We will focus on the first three quarters but not forgot about the last quarter."
As Congupna continued to pull away in the final quarter, with its lead stretching past 40 points 10 minutes in, United's mind turned towards developing its younger players.
“We played the last quarter with four 19-year-olds in the centre square to give them experience,” Sutherland said of Angus Jackson, Eli Spiers, Matthew Lias and Kynan Sharpe.
“You're going to have some bumps in the road with a young quartet in the middle.
“But that game was already shot, so we were looking to next week, next month, next year.”
For Congupna, the win saw the club lift its season off the ground after a 46-point round one loss to Mulwala.
And dominating the show was Glen Boyd who ran rings around his defensive opponents to finish with 13 goals.
Congupna coach Peter Sheehan was full of praise for his forward star, along with his midfield for their silver service.
“It's always nice to to have a target up forward to kick the ball to who will either mark it, or it's going to be a contest and our crumbers come in to it,” Sheehan said.
“The week before against Mulwala we were giving ourselves chances, but our delivery into the forward line was terrible at times.
“We did a fair bit of work on that during the week, and it certainly paid dividends.”
For United, the week leading into their round three game against Deniliquin will focus on two things according to Sutherland.
“Our two focuses will be defensive running and eliminating individual errors, like dropped marks and missed kicks,” he said.
“If we could halve the individual errors, we would improve significantly and be well and truly in contention to win footy games.”
