Poor conversion in front of goal and a woeful second term by the Power resulted in a 37 point loss to the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday night.
The Power started well around the ground, leading the inside 50s (13-9), clearances (11-4), contested ball (29-22) and tackles (16-9) at the first change.
They found themselves down by one point however, with an inaccurate 1.6 (12) for the term to 2.1 (13).
Five goals in nine minutes after quarter-time blew an otherwise well-fought contest wide open, as the Lions used their sudden surge of momentum to lead by 35 points at half time.
The second half was closely contested, but the buffer proved too much for the Power as Brisbane recorded a 12.13 (85) to 6.12 (48) win.
Despite the loss, Port Adelaide still sit on top of the ladder, holding a whopping 40.5 per cent buffer from the second placed Lions.
Marshall had his quietest game for the season, finishing the day with just four touches.
The former Deni Rams junior had three kicks and one handball, kicking one goal, taking two marks and laying four tackles.
‘‘We were a fair way off with our contest work and stoppage stuff (on Saturday) so we will get to work on it,’’ Marshall said.
‘‘The Giants always play good footy, they are filled with stars.
‘‘It will be a tough challenge for our team defence again, particularly with how well GWS scored last week from minimal inside 50s against the Hawks, but hopefully we can contain them.’’
The Power will play at their Gold Coast hub home ground Metricon Stadium when they meet the Giants at 1.05pm on Sunday.
