LIGHTNING was the cause of a house fire in Pakenham St, Echuca, on Wednesday afternoon.
Two trucks from Echuca CFA arrived at the weatherboard house just before 6 pm to find the transformer connected to the house on fire.
“Due to the rain, it's basically put itself out,” Echuca CFA firefighter Stephanie Horton said.
“The quick response of the fire brigade ensured there was no damage to the house.
“The only delay we had was waiting for Powercor to ensure the line was safe.”
Lightning was also blamed for a tree catching fire on Murray Valley Hwy at Koyuga three hours later.
Several units were called to the scene at 8.55 pm.
“Due to the difficult access, we were there for a while but, like the other job, the rain put it out,” Miss Horton said.
“There was no risk to lives or homes.”
