Representatives from 11 Echuca-Moama churches will combine for the annual Walk of Witness on Good Friday.
The event will see a parade departing from the Uniting church on the corner of Hare and Pakenham streets in Echuca, along Hare St to Christ Church Anglican and St Mary’s Catholic Church, before finishing at the Uniting church.
Spokesperson Donovan Jasper of New Life Baptist said the Walk to Witness had a proud history.
“It started back in the early 2000s and was done on an annual basis before we hit a pause in 2014,” he said.
“But we were able to start it again in 2021 after COVID and this year is the third one back for us.”
The churches involved are St Mary’s Catholic Church, Christ Church Anglican, St Aloysuis, Echuca-Moama Uniting Church, Salvation Army, New Life Baptist, Epicentre Church, Echuca Community Church, Lifesource Church, Trinity Lutheran Church and the Church of Christ.
Pastor Jasper said the relationship between the local churches was a healthy one.
“The ministers get together regularly. We meet monthly and have done so over the past couple of years,” he said.
The parade is open to all members of the public who would like to participate and will start at 10.30am.
“Anyone is welcome to be a part of it. We actually had a few tourists take part last year,” Salvation Army’s Sonia Edwards said.
Uniting church’s Rev Michele Lees said after the parade was completed, everyone was invited to enjoy some refreshments.
“We’ll have hot cross buns and the chance for people to enjoy a cuppa,” she said.
