She will take part in her very first Great Cycle Challenge, which will require her to pedal at least 300km throughout October.
While doing so, she will raise funding and awareness for the Children’s Medical Research Institute.
More than 600 Australian children are diagnosed with cancer every year, with three children dying each week.
“I love riding, so why not do it with purpose?" Mrs Hovenden said.
“There are many amazing stories on the official Great Cycle Challenge website.
“I'm a mother and a grandmother myself and while I haven't been personally affected by children's cancer, everyone knows someone who has had some form of cancer in their lives.”
Mrs Hovenden has been training over several weeks in prepartion for the big month of riding, and says she's confident she can reach the 300km goal.
Having already raised $1300 for the cause has been extra incentive.
“I started off by riding about 12km at a time and now I'm doing about 30km every two days,” she said.
“I want to make sure I'm ready for the challenge. I will try and do about three rides a week of 30km, which should comfortably get me to my 300km riding goal.”
“I originally set the monetary goal at $400, but I had so much support contributed from friends, family and myself as well.
“It's a great cause so I'm very please with what I've been able to raise so far.”
Also completing the challenge next month is Finley's Sharon Pyle. It will be her seventh Great Cycle Challenge, and she has set a goal to ride 500km.
