Welcome to the latest instalment of the Echuca Lions Club’s round-up, titled Lions Roar.
This column has been in hibernation for a couple of months, but there has been no rest for the Echuca Lions.
BUS-TASTIC DONATION
Echuca Lions Club recently donated $5000 to Echuca Neighbourhood House towards its purchase of a new bus.
The bus will be used for the transfer of food in and around Echuca.
HELPING HAND
Echuca Lions Club played an important role in the new playground at Elmore.
The club donated $3100 for the purchase of the playground equipment to be used by children affected by the floods.
Lions Club members and employees of Bunnings helped to put up the playground equipment, which has been a welcome addition for the area.
SOCIAL NIGHT A ROLL-ICKING EVENING
Echuca Lions Club held a social bowls night at Rich River for members and wives.
The action on the greens was followed by dinner at the club.
LAURIE NOW A LIFE MEMBER
Echuca Lions Club staged a meeting at the Caledonian Hotel.
The meeting was attended by wives, widows of past members and also members of the Lockington Lions Club.
There were two highlights on the evening.
The first was the induction of new member Greg Anderson.
The second was the appointment of new life member Laurie Stewart.
Laurie has done a terrific job as area manager of the Echuca Good Friday Appeal, although this year’s event will be his last in the position.
Congratulations to Laurie on his life membership, and a warm welcome for Greg.
BUSY TIME AT SOUTHERN 80
The Southern 80 is a terrific weekend for Echuca-Moama, and Echuca Lions Club played its part.
Members were busy working across the weekend, selling programs, drinks and looking after the gate entrance.
SPECIAL VISIT
Echuca Lions Club welcomed James McLeod, the Victorian manager of Tobin Brothers, recently.
Mr McLeod was joined by four staff members, including Echuca manager Sean Green.
Mr McLeod presented a cheque of $10,000 to the Echuca Lions Club, advising for this to be used for people affected by floods in the Echuca area.
He said Tobin Brothers had donated $70,000 towards flood and fire victims across the state.
