The Goulburn Valley League will enjoy bragging rights for the next year, after securing both the under-15 and under-17 titles at the annual Shepparton Netball Association tournament at the weekend.

The under-15 final was contested by the GVL representative team and the Murray Netball League squad, with a number of local players taking to the court for both sides.

Echuca had three representatives in the tournament winning GVL side, with Emma Head, Rose Byrne and Ruby Morley joined by Rochester’s Marli Cottam in defeating the MNL squad 11-7 in the championship division grand final.

Echuca’s Ruby Morley was also recognised for her standout individual performance, earning the MVP award in the grand final.

Moama and Echuca United were well represented in the Murray League side, with Diaz Agg, Indi Phillips, Miller Davies and Coby Morgan selected from the Magpies, while Echuca United had Chloe Moyle and Abbey Stobaus in the side.

The GVL side, coached by Mooroopna’s Bree Hanslow and Amy Marshall, lost just one of their six round robin match-ups on their way to the title.

The GVL dominance continued in the under-17 championship division, with Shepparton Swans’ Meagan Harrison coaching the representative squad to the title in emphatic fashion, winning every game they played.

Holly Chadwick and Maisy Byrne were the Echuca representatives in the side that defeated Barellan 15-11 in the grand final.

The MNL side was unable to make the decider, falling in the semi-final, however Abby Larkin, Gemma Joyce and Hannah Richards all played well having been selected from Moama.

The Murray League squads will compete at the Wodonga tournament this weekend, before both the Goulburn Valley and Murray Netball League representative squads take to the courts at the Echuca District Netball Association tournament on Sunday, May 14.
