The Australian Indoor Championship Men’s Qualifiers were held at Moama Bowling Club last weekend, with a South Bendigo duo making the cut for the national event in Tweed Heads.
Clubmates Brad Holland and Matt Robertson claimed two of the 12 spots on offer for the Victorian contingent bound for the championships, which are held in August.
Holland secured his selection with a 21-9 victory over Moama young gun Cameron Keenan, who carved his way to the final four after a tie-break win over clubmate Merv Harvey in the quarter-finals.
Keenan was an emphatic 14-1 winner in the first set before Harvey claimed a 9-7 victory in the second, though Keenan made no mistake in the tie-break, notching six shots to none.
Echuca’s Steve Cunnington also progressed to the final eight, needing a tie-break to decide his clash against Dunkeld’s Chris Burrell.
Cunnington took the first set 8-3 before Burrell swung the game around, claiming a two-shot win in the second before a 5-0 result in the tie-break.
At the women’s qualifier in Sunbury, Echuca’s Joan Moss made it to the quarter-finals, defeating Altona’s Gayle Edwards before bowing out to Webbcona’s Leah McArthur, both games ending in a tie-break set.
