Club Championships grand final day
The race for the club champion title saw Brett Stone lead Mat Dennis by three shots at the start of the day.
Brett had a shaky start, and his lead was cut to two shots after four holes, but a birdie on the seventh steadied the ship and with solid play Brett’s lead extended to six shots after nine holes.
Brett held his nerve with a solid inside-nine to finish with rounds of 75-77-78=230 to seal his first club champion title.
Runner-up was Grant Humbert (77-84-76=237), followed five shots further back by Mat Dennis and Ash Portwine, both on 242.
B-grade was delicately poised at the start of the day with Trav Mancer leading by three shots from Jason Wakefield, Steve Holt and Stu Newton.
In a round of many ebbs and flows, Stu Newton took the lead after the fourth, but Steve Holt then birdied the fifth to hit the front, which he held until the ninth when Trav and Stu hit the front.
Trav took the outright lead after the 10th, but was joined again by Holt in front after the 14th. Trav parred the 15th to again take the lead outright by a shot, which extended to two after the 17th.
There was a two-shot turnaround on the 18th when Steve parred the hole to tie the contest, both finishing on 260.

Rochester Golf Club
Lockington Golf Club retained the Cec Parsons Trophy last Monday, their best combined stableford score of 480 easily accounted for Rochester's 432. Jake Wright, Leigh Hicks and Col Johnson were the best Rochester players.
Wednesday's three-person Ambrose over the back nine was won by the team of Wayne Williams, Kevin McCormack and Robert Vise, 35- 42/6 net 30 4/6, runners-up were the team of Tim Quinlan, Laurie Radley and Shane Wolfe 36-3 (33), next best was Richard Feuk's team on (33 4/6). Peter Anderson continued his liking for the short 12th to win a ball for nearest-the-pin once again.
Julie Leahy was the winner at last Friday's ladies' game; her 35 stableford points were just enough to defeat the unlucky Louise Eeles on a countback. Leahy was nearest on 8, Louise Williams 5 and 16, and Jenny Major was the straightest down 10.
Most players found the going tough in Saturday's men's stroke event. Playing off the back markers and in strong northerly winds only Robert Vise played to or bettered his handicap. Vise's 87 net 70 won from Ian Pollard, Bruce Bryant and Laurie Radley all on 72, Pollard was runner-up on a countback. Neil Goghill (73), Des Gallagher and Ap Kuiper were next best (74).
Nearest-the-pin winners were scarce with Pollard on eight and Gallagher's second shot to 18 being the only winners.
Captain Darren White has indicated next Saturday's event will be played off the forward white markers, which will be a relief to many.
