JUNE was a busy month for Echuca Moama Field and Game, with the club playing host to day three of the Golden Rivers Classic, the second biggest shoot on the Field and Game calendar, on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. The club then followed this up with our monthly shoot on the following Sunday.

The Golden Rivers Classic attracted 334 shooters to the area to participate in one, two, or all three of the days shooting on offer. The classic is held between three different clubs, with Barrook Field and Game holding day one on the Saturday, Pinegrove Field and Game hosting day two on Sunday, and Echuca Moama Field and Game wrapping up the weekend on the Monday.
Thanks to many supportive sponsors the clubs were able to offer a massive prize pool for the winners over the weekend. Among the many cases of shotgun shells and trophies, there was also a lucky door prize of a new Miroku shotgun, which was on offer to those shooters who shot all three days.
Echuca Moama wishes to acknowledge and thank Spartan Global for their very generous support of our clubs day, which not only included all of the shotgun shells we gave away as prizes, but also two pairs of R.E Ranger shooting glasses. We look forward to many more years of working together and supporting each other.
Day three of the Classic was shot over three rounds consisting of 25 targets per round. Roger Kerslake, Ricky Keirl, and Leo McIntyre worked tirelessly in the days leading up to the classic to design and set their courses with the help of many members who volunteered their time to ease the load and who helped to keep the traps full of clay targets and the day running smoothly.
With many well known shooters attending the weekend, the competition was tough – but the current national champion Nick Guerra was on target, winning High Gun on day one and day three to give him the Overall High Gun win for the weekend, shooting 70/75, 71/75, and then 69/75 to finish up with a score of 210 out of 225 targets for the weekend. This was no easy feat, with the weather throwing a bit of everything at the shooters, including wind and rain.
A full list of the winners from day three, as well as the overall winners for the Golden Rivers Classic, can be found on Echuca Moama Field and Game’s Facebook page.
The following weekend the club held their normal monthly shoot which was attended by 53 shooters. The 50 target event was kindly sponsored by Mister Embroidery in Kyabram, with the course set up by Lawrie West and his helpers.
Congratulations to Terry Northausen for shooting the only perfect round of 25 for the day.
Local shooter and club president Ricky Keirl shot his way to High Gun with a score of 44 out of 50.
Russell Hooper was one target behind Ricky on 43, giving him the win in AA grade. Nick Dean won A grade, also with a score of 43, Ian Drummond took the honours in B grade with 34, and Hayden Cox was the C grade winner with 34.
Veterans was won by local Roger Kerslake with 39 targets shot, Emma Keirl won the ladies category with 34, junior winner was Bianca Norris with 20 targets, and sub juniors was won with a score of 27 by Izzy Keirl.
The club’s next shoot is a 75-target handicap event to be held on Sunday, July 21, beginning at 10am. Campaspe Hydraulics is our generous sponsor for this event.
