U12s — Echuca Murray Bombers vs Leitchville-Gunbower
It was a slow start to the game on Friday night against Leitchville-Gunbower, the first quarter was pretty sluggish with both teams taking a while to warm up.
After a rev up from Coach O’Toole the team went out in the second ready to play.
Jack Scragg, Archer Weeks, Jack Oliver and Riley Chivers-Sellings were fabulous in the backline, stopping the ball and sending it forward.
Riley really showing off his marking skills. Hayla McGregor and Jaxon Bourke got into the contests, tackling and shepherding to make sure the ball stayed in our hands.
Paddy Oliver got in and under the play, winning the ball to kick our first goal for the game.
The third quarter was hard fought, with our team dominating play, but a strong defence from Leitchville-Gunbower stopped many scoring opportunities.
Easton Carlile was sensational in his tackling and efforts to win the ball.
Angus Watson was everywhere, fighting hard to keep control, but the highlight of the quarter went to Charlie O’Toole’s goal, a huge kick about 30m out that went straight through the sticks.
In the fourth, the play was all ours resulting in many quick goals that lifted team spirits.
Zac Swinton and Taj Fleming’s grit and determination, together with Darcy Weeks making sure we had first use of the ball from the centre created scoring opportunities.
Cooper Mai, Charlie Kenna and Logan Mann all played their roles to keep the ball moving forward.
Our super run to the finish with five goals in the last can be credited to the exceptional team work on the night.
A huge thanks to Paddy and Taj for sensational efforts all night.
