Yarrawonga Mulwala Visitor Information Centre Executive Officer Noel Wright said the tourist centre had received a number of calls for free camping but staff were expecting day trips to pick up over the coming weeks.
“There is still a wide range of accommodation available in and around Yarrawonga Mulwala for the long weekend and beyond but there have still been a number of bookings taken as well,” Mr Wright said.
“We are fielding numerous calls around free camping. We are expecting growth in day tripper numbers and overnight visitations in the coming weeks with the relaxation of travel restrictions.
“While we would love to see everything bounce back to normal immediately, we are expecting a gradual increase rather than a bounce.
“Obviously the financial impact will take some time to recover and the advantage we have is Yarrawonga Mulwala has been a popular destination for some time and this will continue.”
With the easing of restrictions allowing pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafes to seat 20 customers in Victoria and 50 in NSW, interest has increased.
Burkes Hotel Motel Venue Manager Michelle Gardner said the dining side of the business has now picked up, but accommodation was still available.
“The interest we have had in dining in has been fantastic,” Ms Gardner said.
“We encourage everyone to book tables as we can still only accommodate 20 people in each space at any one time, but we still have a lot of our accommodation rooms available, but accommodation will take a little while to pick up.”
A spokesperson of Yarrawonga Mulwala Accommodation Centre said that they still had a number of vacancies but were tracking OK.
“We still have a bit available, but we are not too bad,” the spokesperson said.
“We obviously don’t have as many enquiries or bookings as last year, but we are tracking OK so far.”
