Milestone man Dunham weighs up retirement

IN A tough season for the Moama Football Club, a shining light has been the work in defence of Luke Dunham.

But this is far from a surprise – in fact it’s been the norm for basically his entire career in black and white.

The problem for Moama now is his career may be entering its final weeks.

Though he appeared hesitant to admit to it.

“To be honest, I think round 18 will finish me,” he said.

“I’m probably facing down retirement.”

In his now 200-game career for his beloved Magpies, Dunham has been one of the premier defenders of the MFL, which has been incredibly important in a developing Magpies team this year.

The 2010 premiership player was typically humble after the match on Saturday as he celebrated a rare milestone in football.

“It was really great to be able to run out there today,” he said.

“I actually didn’t think I was going to make it.

‘‘I’ve had a few injuries and what not along the journey. I’m getting a bit older now so things like that start to really impact on your body, so it was a challenge for me to get here, but I’m really proud to have got to this milestone.

“It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get a win today, but we will keep working towards that. Deni is a pretty solid outfit, so I couldn’t be any prouder of how we played against them today.”

While the milestone made the day special, a minor injury in the first half compounded the loss.

“I’ve half pulled my groin,” he said.

“It will be something I am going to have to stay on top of, and hopefully it will be something that won’t keep me off the park for too long.”
