Border Raiders FC secured first position on the CVL League 2 women’s ladder with a strong win over championship rivals Kyneton Rangers on Sunday.

With top billing on the line in the first-versus-second clash out at Jack Eddy Oval, the Raiders made swift amends for their cup final loss to the Rangers to finish the regular season atop the ladder with nine wins, one draw and two defeats.

Erika Love backed up last week’s hat-trick against Epsom with a brace against the Rangers with a goal either side of half-time, while Katherine Barnes’s 13th-minute strike handed the Raiders the first of their two first-half goals.
Sian Hooppell dragged a goal back for Kyneton late but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Raiders from securing an important win heading into the start of finals this week.

The Raiders will compete in their second consecutive finals series with an eye to building on last year’s preliminary final, and look poised to face La Trobe University in the qualifying final after they leapfrogged Kyneton into second following a 22-0 win over Golden City SC.
The Raiders women won’t be alone in the bid for a 2023 championship however, with the men’s team also preparing for its own campaign.

A 7-0 defeat to Golden City brought an end to the Raiders regular season, but despite the result, the side has still qualified for finals in sixth position.
Meanwhile, the junior squads were also in the thick of the action as finals soccer nears.
The under-16 Raiders suffered a narrow 4-3 loss to Kyneton, and with one round to play currently sit in fourth with a clash against Swan Hill to come.

The second-place under-14A side battled it out for a 1-1 draw against Kyneton thanks to an Ethan Anthony goal, now looking ahead to finals. The Border Vikings fell 4-0 to Golden City.
Border Raiders under-12a wrapped up the regular season with 2-1 win over Castlemaine while the Vikings toiled hard in a 3-1 defeat to Spring Gully.
