The grand final of Luv Golf brought out the nerves with scoring on the difficult side. Rowan Hill and Simon Reid fought out A-grade with fine nett 68’s. The consistent Rob Kilgour won B-grade with Barry Dixon winning the major C-grade prize.

Maree Ciavarella won the women’s event from Josie Kirkman who has hit form of late. Gloria Bennett took third place with her fourball partner Deb Bawden won the super-pin.

Sunday, August 27:
Keith McCormack, Michael Badura, Trevor Moody and Gary Edwards combined well to win their qualifying round of the PGA Scramble with a nett score of 53.625. In second place was the team of Zac, Sebastian and Wayne Campbell along with Jack O’Callaghan with 56.25 on a countback to Marc Cain, Russell Myers, Steven Deller and Lee Turner.
NTPs: Gary Edwards, Travis Clack and Travis Lewis for the men and for the women, Simone Morgan, Frances Bennett and Cheryl Watson.
Monday, August 28:
Jenny Kirkpatrick’s 23 stableford points gave her the win in the nine-hole competition with Lyn Newton close behind in second with 22 points on a countback to Denise Ferrier.
The 18-hole medley was won by Debbie Gniel with 39 points and another countback was needed to determine second and third, Debra Thompson winning the countback from Gloria Martin on 37 points. Storm Ord was nearest the pin.
Tuesday, August 29:
Mark Emery had a blinder to win A-grade and have the best score of the day as well.
Jim Patton was on target to challenge with twenty-two points on the front nine but could not quite finish it off. Bill Brodribb edged out Nug Lister in B-grade and it was even closer in C-grade with Barry McPherson winning over Dean Zadow in a countback, with Barry Hart in third.
Handel Aubrey provided a highlight when his second shot on the par four fifteenth found the bottom of the cup for eagle.

Wednesday, August 30:
Debbie Gniel followed up on Monday’s win to be part of the winning team in the PGA Scramble qualifier. Debbie, Lorraine Bowman, Vicki Shipp and Trish Williams had 62 nett to take the win and the right to represent Rich River in the final of the PGA Scramble later this year in Melbourne.
Runners-up were Chris Doherty, Suzan Hutton, Jan Annakis and Colleen Lynch with 62.125.
Rosalie Drill, Dianne Stewart, Mary-Anne Davis and Joy Kennedy took third place with 63.875.
The daily competition was a four person Ambrose with the team of Shirley Phelan, Thelmsa Callanan, Elizabeth Pollock and Ros Pellegrino taking top spot with a magnificent nett score of 58.
Rosey Devlin, Lyn James, Lee Boulton and Lesley Gray were second with 60.625.
NTPs: Maree Ciavarella, Ruth Turpin and Liz McKinlay on the third; Gloria Bennett, Marg Peat and Thelma Callanan on 16; with second shots on 13 were Carol Eddy, Simone Morgan and Maxine Aitken. Super-pin: Marg Davison.
Rochester Golf Club
In perfect golfing conditions, Jake Wright holds a slender lead of one over president Leigh Hicks after the second round in the club’s men’s championship.
Hick’s followed up his disappointing first round with a solid 76 for a total of 156 from Wright’s 155.
Shane Bywaters could only manage 159 after his 81 on Saturday.
Interest will be on who handles the pressure on Saturday when the three leaders and previous winners play together in the final round to decide the 2023 A-grade champion.
Leading B-grade, Steven Bubb shot the lights out over the first seven holes to be square with the card, but his excellent form deserted him, finishing with 41 and 45 to finish on 86 from David Gebbie, also on 86.
Bubb now leads Gebbie by only two for a total 173.
Peter Anderson fell away and looks no chance after his disappointing 93, second round.
Gebbie was the winner on the day after his 86 net 70, from Hicks on a countback from the unlucky Ian Pollard and Troy McInness (71) and Bubb (73).
Bubb was nearest on fifth, also resulting in a birdie second, Wright for his second shot to ninth and Graham Willis donated his ball back after his shot to the Willis family 16th.
Kevin McCormack won last Wednesday’s nine-hole event over the front nine, scoring 23 stableford points from Spencer Broom’s 22 points.
McCormack also won a ball for his nice shot to eighth.
Next week will be a four-stick-only event, which should include your putter, some interesting scores are assured, although others believe 14 is too many under normal playing conditions.
Julie Leahy Louise Williams and Barb McCarthy won the Marong Coffee Cup on Friday.
Rochester tournament 18-holes open championship, men’s and women’s is rescheduled for Sunday, September 17.
Don’t forget to organise an ambrose teams for the Mitre 10 Tradies three-person event on Friday, September 8, and the big Charity 4-person on Friday, September 29, sponsored by Rochester Sports Power and Razor Roofing.
Bamawm Golf Club
It was a beautiful day on Sunday with 17 on course for our annual turns par 3 competition.
Winner of the scratch with 62 was Sam Newth.
Winner of the nett with a fantastic score of 63-21-42 was Jeff Carnie with Neville Vicary runner-up with 65-22-43.
Count the putts was Alex MacQuibban with 21 putts.
Nearest the pin: third, Francis Lee; fourth, Neville Vicary; seventh, David Winchcomb; ninth, Frank Coonerty.
Next week is Privilege Cup and stroke round.
The annual TJ Malone four-ball best-ball is on Friday, September 15.

Wednesday, August 23:
Helen Hayes won the Giddings Co Player of the Day with her score of 26 points, with Annette Brereton the runner-up. Nearest the pin: Marg Eade.
The Marong Coffee Pot team’s event was played last Friday and the Locky ladies did well. The in-form Helen Hayes won the Division two individual prize, with Phyll Macfarlane runner-up.
Preparations are well under way for the 2023 Joy Bickford Rose Bowl team’s event, to be played on Thursday, August 31. Entries and enquiries to Pauline Humbert (0409 038 554).
Saturday, August 26:
Golfers enjoyed better weather, and it was Simon Portwine who scorched around the course to score a handicap-smashing 42 points to win the Privilege Cup, the Giddings Co Player of the Day voucher and C-grade honours.
Simon’s round was highlighted by a scintillating 25 points on his first nine holes.
Mat Dennis was back in form to win A-grade with 37 points, ahead of Grant Humbert (36). The luckless Ray Brereton was beaten in B-grade on a countback for the second consecutive week, this time by Darren Carnie who won B-grade, both players finishing with 39 points.

Neither the eagles nest on the third, nor Captain Bricka’s yardstick prize on the seventh was won, with the yardstick jackpotting to $90.50 for next week.
The Gartside Cup final will be played next Saturday, September 2.

There was a terrific response to the first week of a four-week program of Junior Golf Come and Try, with nine kids turning up.
