In B-grade, Avenel outscored the Royals by 26 runs in their clash, with Steve Donavan (53) starring with the pine, while Evan Mills led Broadford to victory over Tallarook with an innings of 42 not out.
Puckapunyal brushed past Kilmore's total of 78 after 18 overs, with six wickets still in hand, and Pyalong comfortably beat Eastern Hill, with Sean Walsh (48 not out) and Jamie Pryor (44) on form with the bat. As for the Eagles, Hayden Szczykulski (33) and Seemus Feery (31) did plenty of the heavy lifting, but could only do so much, as teammates fell around them.
Rounding out B-grade, Alexandra decimated Yea Tigers, reaching their total of 41 in nine overs. Alexandra's bowlers produced some ripping balls to start the season, finishing with nine maiden overs collectively.
Yea withstands late Seymour chase in cricket season opener
● In SDCA's C-grade competition, Broadford Red overcame Avenel on enemy territory, despite a superb innings from Avenel's Josh McDonald (73 not out). The Reds' Jason Purves (34 not out) and David Hussey (32 not out) combined to rush past Avenel's total of 105.
Broadford Black also took out its match against the Royals, losing only one wicket to surpass the 69 runs required.
Despite dropping its A-grade match against Yea, Seymour came out on top in C-grade beating Kilmore, while Pyalong defeated Puckapunyal Nomads, using a mere 11 overs to reach Pucka's total of 58.
To wrap up the weekend, Puckapunyal's second team, the Wanderers, proved too strong for Alexandra at Leckie Park.
