As outlined in the Domestic Animals Act 1994, all dogs and cats over three months of age must be registered with their local council and microchipped.
“Registering and microchipping pets that are three months of age and older provides some security for pet owners should their dogs or cats become lost,” Gannawarra Shire Council chief executive Tom O’Reilly said.
“Registration fees also cover council’s pound expenses, as well as ensure animal management staff are employed to attend nuisance complaints, investigate dog attacks, conduct patrols, undertake domestic animal business audits and investigate dog and cat welfare issues.”
Reduced registration fees are applicable for pets aged over 10, dogs kept for working stock, animals registered with an applicable organisation, and desexed animals.
Additional discounts also apply if the owner holds an eligible pension card.
Renewal notices will be issued via mail within the next week.
You may elect to receive the renewal notice by email in 2022.
Details about e-notices are shown on the 2021-22 renewal notice.
Payment can be made in person at council’s customer service centres, by cheque or money order mailed to council, over the phone or online via BPAY.
A separate BPAY payment is required per animal.
Contact customer service staff on 5450 9333 if you need to make payment of an amount different to that shown on the renewal notice.
