Pennant
The club held a pre-pennant BBQ last Thursday. President, Keith Mills welcomed new Coach Scott Widdison. Scott expressed his confidence that the club would have a good year on the greens.
The weather was miserable, so members were glad to have the protection of the new blinds in the outdoor area.
The four Pennant games played on Saturday saw mixed fortunes.
The A1 side, promoted from A2 last season, played against Rutherglen, and had a tight result, winning overall by 4 shots.
Maree Jones, Rod Garthwaite, Wayne Lee and skip, Shawn McMahon won 23-18.
Judy Black, Ray McLarty, Allen Bartlett and skip, Jordan Thornton won 19-14.
Kaz Hughes, Raz Porter, Ken Widdison and skip, Stuart McNeill won 23-18.
Adam Larkins, Andy Dickins, Danny Webb and skip, Scott Widdison lost 14-25.
The A4 side benefited from the influx of A1 players to the club and fielded a strong side to defeat Yarrawonga by 36 shots.
Barry Warburton, Tony Coughlin, Gary Brown and skip Peter Summerill won 23-13.
Chris Reilly, Susie Swift, Lorraine Carmody and skip Norm Carmody won 24-18.
Justin Robb, Darryl Brown, Anne Summerill and skip Troy Brockley won 28-7.
Lex Thornton, David Muir, Les Pilfoot and skip Brenton Ketchell lost 17-18.
It’s great to see David Muir back in the pennant side.
The B2 side had a tough game against a strong Wodonga team who have been relegated from A4 and lost by 54 shots.
Roly Nixon, Peter Smith, Wendy Robb and skip Peter Mills lost 15-30.
Roz Lewis, Anne Smith, Wally Langton and skip Jeff Nixon lost 12-29.
Dux MacQueen, Rosemary Baddeley, Greg Keyte and skip Tony Fierenzi fought their way back into the game, eventually losing 16-38.
The B3 side travelled to Wodonga and also had a tough game, losing by 23 shots.
Marilyn Langton, Alma Muir, Lynne Ewison and Garry Neill lost 12-25.
Liam Larkins, Neville McPherson, Joan Wood and skip Brian Houlihan lost 16-21.
Pam Lee, Rhonda Clark, Ross Ewison and skip Laurie Way lost 13-18.
Club Events
The Ladies Minor Singles has been completed, with Wendy Robb overcoming Lynne Ewison in the final to take out the title.
The Men’s Minor Singles is at the semi-final stage. Les Pilfoot plays Darryl Brown and Tony Fierenzi plays Jeff Nixon.
The Lady’s Triples has seen one round played with the team of Rosemary Baddeley, Anne Smith and Susie Swift defeating the team of Shirla Wall, Pam Lee and Anne Summerill.
In the Men’s Triples, the quarter finals have been played with the following results.
The Peter Summerill team defeated the Stu McNeill team: the Scott Widdison team defeated the Wayne Lee team: the Troy Brockley team defeated the Raz Porter team and the Rod Garthwaite team defeated the Allen Bartlett team.
Barefoot Bowls
The Thursday Rollers competition starts on Thursday, October 26. The club is still looking for teams to fill the draw. Coaching is available from 5.30, BBQ at 6.00 and the bowls starts at 6.30pm. The competition runs for four weeks, there are prizes for the best team each week and an overall prize for the best team after four weeks. Only one experienced player per team please.
Federation Community Expo
The Bowls Club will have an exhibition at the Expo tomorrow night, come down and say hello. You can have a “roll” and be part of a free raffle and there are lots of give-aways.
