It was Echuca White’s turn to tackle Mooroopna in the Goulburn Murray Cricket women’s competition in round three, but the Cats reigned supreme on their home deck.

A 56-run partnership between Mooroopna’s Gemma Boyd and Ebony Sleeth set the tone for the day before Echuca vice-captain Jordan Dalziel claimed the breakthrough wicket of Sleeth for 20.

A quick piece of fielding from Holly Smith then sent Ava Wood packing, and a stunning spell of 3-14 from Matilda Smith saw Echuca put the clamps on the Cats’ run-scoring.

But a 34-run cameo from Lauren Hall helped propel Mooroopna to 5-143 from its 20 overs.

Mia Arthurson and Madeline Davy made a measured start to the innings before Amani Issell snared the first of her five wickets for the match, rolling through the Echuca top order.

Zoe Cook top-scored with 11 runs while Olivia Davy ended not out on 10, but the Cats claimed a 75-run win to keep their strong start to the season going.

At Nagambie Reserve, a gallant Rochester couldn’t topple the Lakers in their first game of the season.

Batting first, Miranda Crawford and Sadie Martin provided the bulk of Rochester’s 5-74 with 14 and 17, respectively, leaving Nagambie 20 overs to make up the target.

Cadence Major knocked over Kelsey Abbott on the first ball of the innings while Crawford struck shortly after to reduce the Lakers to 2-14, but a blistering 48-run knock from Nagambie skipper Kait Carracher ensured her team would pass the total without incident.

Meanwhile, another decisive win for Shepparton kept it undefeated for another week, while Kyabram Redbacks won an arm-wrestle against Bamawm Lockington United.

Rochester will look to rebound against Echuca Green this Sunday at Victoria Park, while Echuca White will tackle Nagambie.
