Officers received a report of a suspicious vehicle near McColl Rd at about 11.40 pm.
Police attended and observed a blue Nissan Navara and a white Nissan Navara stopped next to each other and people trying to load a motorcycle onto the white Navara.
The blue Navara, which was towing a trailer, sped towards the police and crashed into the front of their vehicle.
The ute attempted to reverse but backed into a drain and became stuck on the trailer.
Police had to smash a window and deploy OC foam as the driver continued to attempt to drive the ute away.
The driver and his female passenger then exited the ute, with the driver deciding to try his luck and leg it from the scene.
Police quickly chased him down, and a 25-year-old man from Echuca and a 24-year-old woman from Echuca are currently assisting police with their enquiries.
The other ute left the scene before police could speak to the driver.
The 25-year-old man has been charged and bailed to appear in the Echuca Magistrates’ Court on November 14.
The 24-year-old woman has been released pending further enquiries.

Heartless thieves strike home for CLRS clients
Two units under construction as part of the Opening Doors Project in Moama were hit by heartless thieves on the night of Tuesday, November 7.
Building site manager Alistair Morrison said the incident has set the completion of the project back by days if not weeks.
“The community is helping to build the units, and the contractors are working on reduced rates to bring the project together,” Mr Morrison said.
When completed, the units will be home to clients of Community Living Respite Services.

The two items stolen were a commercial grinder and an industrial vacuum cleaner.
“The homes were locked at 6 pm last night. When we arrived at the site at 6 am, the front door was forced open on Unit 1,” Mr Morrison said.
“It’s disconcerting that people would steal from people who have a disability.”
Throughout the night, the NSW police had made numerous patrols overnight to deter opportunistic thieves.
“The two items that were stolen are specific to people who work in carpet laying or floor laying,” Mr Morrison said.
“These items are not something a regular person would need.”
