Splash park receives safety upgrade

The Yarrawonga Splash Park is due to re-open this week after receiving safety upgrades.

The Yarrawonga Splash Park is scheduled to re-open this week after it was forced closed on its opening weekend in early November.

Visitors to the park had reported on the Melbourne Cup long weekend, that the surface was “too slippery”, taking to social media commenting that numerous children had fallen and suffered quite extensive grazes.

“Council have arranged an independent slip resistance test of the surface in addition to the comprehensive slip resistance tests conducted by the contractors,” a Moira Shire Council spokesperson said.

“The contractors are undertaking an additional re-paint of the entire splash park surface (which occurred on Monday), giving special attention to sections prone to slipperiness, particularly around water equipment like the junior slide.

“This should be completed this week.”

The splash park has suffered several setbacks since being earmarked to replace the much-loved but doomed Yarrawonga waterslide. An opening date was initially set almost a year later than expected after many delays in its construction.

The expanded Yarrawonga Splash Park will offer an extensive water play area featuring over 20 interactive water equipment pieces.

The splash park, which should be re-opened mid this week, will operate daily from 9am to 9pm until April, with the possibility of extending hours based on demand.
