Junior Country Week teams announced

Back for more: Bamawm-Lockington United's Kade Pearse, pictured during the 2023 edition of Junior Country Week, will once again don the Goulburn Murray Cricket orange, named in the under-16 squad for the 2024 carnival.

More than 100 of the brightest young talents from Goulburn Murray Cricket have been named in squads for the 2024 Northern Rivers Junior Country Week representative carnival.

Four days of competition from Tuesday, January 2, to Friday, January 5, will see the top local juniors go head-to-head with other top underage competitors from regions including Bendigo, Shepparton, Murray Valley and Sunraysia.

GMC will field eight sides in the carnival, with under-14 and under-17 girls’ teams competing, as well as under-13, under-14, under-15, under-16 and under-17 boys’ squads.

Matches will be played across the Northern Rivers region, with Moama Recreation Reserve hosting the GMC under-17 boys’ game against Shepparton on Thursday, January 4, while Brick Alley is set to host GMC vs Bendigo in the under-12 boys’ match on the same day.

Brose Reserve in Tongala will witness two matches, starting with the under-14 girls’ clash against Gisborne on January 3, followed by the under-13 boys’ clash against Bendigo on January 4.

Rochester’s Windridge Oval is also scheduled to host the GMC under-17 boys when they face the Murray Valley squad on the opening day of the carnival.

The GMC sides will look to build off a competitive Junior Country Week earlier this year, in which the under-17 boys and under-14 girls’ squads qualified for grand finals, although neither side managed to take the win.
