The Swans managed a crucial victory over cross-town rival Echuca, restricting the host to 137 to score a first innings win by 43 runs at Victoria Park.
Echuca started the day with a clean scorecard after South had been dismissed for 180 on day one and would have been hopeful of securing victory as the higher ranked side in a battle of second versus fourth.
After an enterprising hundred on the opening day’s play, Singappuli followed up with a six-wicket haul on day two.
He finished the match with figures of 6-29 off 22.1 overs, having bowled 11 maidens, on his way to taking six of the last seven wickets on offer.
Singappuli has been a dominant force throughout the campaign with bat and ball, taking 27 wickets at 15.4 and averaging 67.1 with the bat.
In the Echuca innings, things quickly started to unravel when openers Ewan Davidson (11) and Curtis Townrow (9) fell in consecutive balls.
The misery was compounded with the loss of Kobyn James (8) and Echuca was reeling at 3-31.
Matthew Hinks and James Grixti attempted to salvage the innings with both men facing more than 100 deliveries as they scored 29 runs apiece, the best total of the innings.
They added 57 before Hinks became the first of Singappuli’s victims and after Grixti also fell there was little further resistance from the hosts, as of the remaining batters only Aidan Young (24) reached double figures as Echuca was all out for 137.
Aside from Singappuli, Mitchell Stephens (2-28) had the next best figures for South, while Tristan Watson (1-22) and AK Gunathilaka (1-29) were the other wicket-takers.
Despite the loss, Echuca narrowly holds on to second place, while other results around the league make this a vital win for fourth-placed South, which would have fallen out of the top-four with a loss.
