Kristy Dunbar owns Hair Makeup Skin on Hare St and works there Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and works at ERH while she completes her nursing degree.
“I believe on Sunday night (February 18), my business was broken into for the second time in less than a year. And somewhere between $10,000-15,000 worth of stock had been taken,” she said.
“They came in via a side window.
Mrs Dunbar is pleading with the community to ensure homeowners, renters and business owners do all they can to protect their valuables.
“Many people think that the police aren’t doing enough, but they are doing all they can. I think the court system is failing us,” she said.
“I think a lot of it is due to the cost of living in Echuca and Moama.
“If you are a homeowner or a business, people should install security cameras to help deter thieves from entering your premises.
“Most of the stock taken was makeup, about 80 per cent of the stolen stock. During the summer, when I’m doing a lot of work for women’s faces, it is a big chunk of my work.
Despite the setback, Ms Dunbar is committed to delivering a valuable service to her many clients.
“It is very stressful. It’s a lot of people’s blood, sweat and tears and hard work that goes into making their business a success. $10,000 is a significant amount of money,” Ms Dunbar said.
The break-in forced the small business owner to re-order stock, replacing the stolen items.
“I do have enough supplies to keep going. Luckily, I just expressed posted items. I’ve also had girlfriends that have sent me items in the mail,” Ms Dunbar said.
