The support received by the Deni Dragons not only means they have a pushcart design they describe as the ‘‘greatest pushcart in the history of the universe’’, but will enable them to attend the 2019
RACV Energy Breakthrough Pushcart Challenge in Maryborough, Victoria.
Year 3/4D teacher Christine Downing said along the way, the project has been a great learning tool for the students involved.
‘‘The goals we have achieved over the last few months are enormous,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s more than just competing in Maryborough; we have been able to work together as a team to design and construct our competition pushcart.
‘‘We have learned that practice makes perfect and that mistakes happen and that’s okay.
‘‘We have used maths, science and English strategies throughout the entire process, we have learned we are lucky to have this opportunity as it’s the best way to learn while having a whole lot of fun.
‘‘We have developed secret racing strategies, approaches to fix problems, tactics to work as a team and skills in building, driving, speaking and listening.
‘‘We have designed our pushcart so well that while we have 30 minutes to assemble it in front of a judging panel, we can do it in under 40 seconds.
‘‘This is only a small list of things we have learned, and this would not have been possible without the support from Deniliquin and district.’’
North School put out the call for support in July this year, when it announced it would enter the challenge for the very first time.
Mrs Downing said the last hurdle in the project now is the challenge itself. It is a four day event, from November 20 to 24.
