Returning home after their disappointing loss to Deniliquin, Moama had something to prove against fifth-placed Mulwala.
In the first quarter, a Magpies win didn’t look likely. The Lions came out strongly, kicking four goals to Moama’s pair and two behinds to give Mulwala a 10-point lead at quarter-time.
However, the Magpies found their footing in the second period, bagging four goals and a behind to the Lions’ trio of maximums and a behind to bring them within four points at the half-time siren.
In a stagnant third term, Moama kicked the quarter’s only goal, along with three behinds, while Mulwala only added three points to their total. The Magpies leapfrogged the Lions to lead by two heading into the final frame.
Mulwala tried its best in crunch time, collecting a pair of goals and behinds, but Moama came in clutch, kicking four goals and two behinds to lift itself to victory.
The final score was Moama 11.8 (74) to Mulwala 9.6 (60).
Moama’s player of the match was undoubtedly Thomas Holman, who spearheaded Moama’s comeback, kicking five goals in the game.
Jack Sheldon, Jack Russell, Danny Brewster, Sam Sheldon and Mitchell Lake join Holman in Moama’s best in round 15.
The Magpies will travel for a top-of-the-table clash with Congupna, who has lost only one game this season and is favourite to capture the flag in September.
If Moama can topple the Murray League giants, it will send a strong message to the rest of the league as a serious contender come finals.
