Under-12 Girls

Friday night, the girls took on Kangaroo Flat. The first quarter showed that Kangaroo Flat had improved over the year, and we had a fight on our hands.

The girls really stood up in the second quarter and there was some great team play to get us back on track.

There was an exceptional piece of play, probably the best of the year, with a number of players working together to link up along the wing and using their teammates. It really showed how far the team have come both in their skills and knowledge of the game.

Our award winners for this week were Willow Brooks with an outstanding game including plenty of run, and Evie Clancy with her efforts in the ruck and around the ground. Our One Percenter Award went to Milly Stafrace for her efforts all night and taking on any feedback given to her.

Next week sees our season wrap up, and it has certainly been a great first season for the girls.

Under-12 Mixed

Rochester hosted the GMFL Lightning premiership at Windridge Oval on a beautiful winter’s morning, with Runnymede, Moama Black and Moama White.

Rochester’s first game was against Runnymede. In a great game of contested football, all players were running hard for the ball and there were some terrific passages of play.

Rochester was able to take the win with goals from Archie Watson, Max Lea and Nash Riordan. Harrison Pangrazio had beautiful pirouettes in the centre to avoid the tackler. A great way to start the Lightning Premiership.

Rochester’s second game was against Moama Black. With a win each in the home and away season, it was always going to be close.

In a very low - scoring game, Moama Black came out with the momentum and had the majority of the play for the game. Rochester’s backline was working hard to prevent Moama Black from scoring.

Rochester lifted their intensity after the half-time break. With a goal to Cooper Rasmussen, Rochester was able to take the win by 5 points.

Rochester’s third game was against Moama White, with both teams undefeated on the day.

Both teams were attacking the ball and tackling hard in every contest. After many scoring opportunities from both sides, Rochester was able to score the next goal after a kick from the pack by Cooper Rasmussen, to take a 13-point lead into half-time.

Rochester came out of halftime with added momentum and were able to take the game away from Moama White.

Another quick goal came from Jack Howe and two from Maddox Parker, with the unpredictable bouncing ball going Rochester’s way. Rochester was able to go on to win the grand final by 29 points, in a fantastic team effort by the Rochester players.

Thank you to all of the teams for participating in a great day of junior football and a big thank you to the Rochester coaches, team officials and committee for putting the day together.

Under-16 Boys

The Rochester Under 16s hosted Kangaroo Flat in what was a tightly fought contest at Windridge Oval.

The first quarter proved tough scoring, with only three goals kicked by both teams; two of those belonging to the visitors.

Trailing at quarter time, the Tigers responded accordingly, kicking five unanswered goals in the second quarter, while restricting Kangaroo Flat to just one point.

Pearse and Boyak posed a dominant threat up forward, while Blake Kyne presented on several occasions, creating scoring opportunities for his teammates. Jimmy Otto again went about his business throughout the whole game, finishing with three goals of his own.

The second half saw midfield dominance from the Tigers, captain Darby Martin and ball magnet Sam Seabrook leading from the front and controlling possession.

Scoring remained relatively even in the third quarter, meaning defenders were continually fighting off scoring opportunities. Jake Munro, Kaelan Connor and Lachie Smith were hard over the ball as always, stopping Flat from gaining any momentum.

Darcey Pump began to lift as the game went on, not only in the ruck but also becoming a presence around the ground, taking some important contested marks. As they have done so often this year, Rochester ran away with the game in the last quarter, proving once again too classy for their opposition.
