The Australian Darts Championships, held at Rich River Golf Club, concluded on Saturday and Echuca Moama Darts Association representatives were in the thick of the action.
The Victorian men’s team, featuring three EMDA players, Michael Cassar, Michael Bajowski, and Dylan Oaff, took out the team championship ahead of South Australia, going undefeated against the other states and territories with a 7-0 record.
Earlier, Cassar was also victorious in the Peter McMenamin Cup, teaming with Brandon Weening, Justin Thompson and Brody Klinge to form Victoria Gold and take out the fours event.
Cassar’s impressive performances earned him a place on the Australian team for a test match against New Zealand in September.
On the women’s side, EMDA’s Jo Hadley retained her place in the Australian line-up, while Janine Cassar was named as a reserve.
Janine was a quarter-finalist in the women’s singles at the championships, helping make her case for a place on the extended squad.
Hadley and Cassar paired up in the women’s doubles to reach the round of 16, the best local result, while in the men’s doubles Michael paired with eventual singles runner-up Brody Klinge to reach the last 16.
Hadley partnered with Bradley Weening to reach the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles, while Bajowski and partner Kody Lane also made it to the quarter-finals.
