But in the case of Karen Corr from Bendigo-based not-for-profit Make a Change, it’s exactly why she dropped into Echuca on Tuesday.
Ms Corr visited Echuca Neighbourhood House as part of ‘‘What Do You Reckon’’, a campaign that aims to get people thinking about the impacts of weather and climate and how they can proactively address these challenges.
The campaign will run until the end of October, with locals encouraged to fill out a survey.
‘‘We’ve chatted to many people over the last couple of months — farmers, neighbours, service providers, students, sports clubs, health enthusiasts, shop owners and more,” organiser Karen Corr said.
‘‘Some people say the heat waves have been really debilitating. Some people are worried about how they’re going to keep doing the gardening.
‘‘But then there are bigger impacts as well, with farmers concerned about increased extreme weather events.’’
Ms Corr said the campaign was all about tackling climate change at a local level.
‘‘Often when people think of climate change, they think at a political level — we’re talking more about how weather and climate affects people locally,’’ she said.
‘‘And we’ve been providing advice — such as how locals can make their houses more energy efficient or how to prepare for a major weather event.’’
Echuca Neighbourhood House and Crossenvale Community House are backing the campaign and will be distributing the surveys.
And for those with online access, a general survey can be found at bit.ly/WDYR-weather and a primary school level survey at bit.ly/WDYR-quick-survey
