Melbourne-based animal shelter The Lost Dogs’ Home has launched the inaugural Pet Fitness Challenge.
For the first time ever, Victorians will have a chance at getting fit with their pet while helping raise funds to care for the lost and abandoned animals at the state’s shelters.
Lost Dogs’ Home spokesperson Suzana Talevski said Victoria was a state in love with pets and with a healthy appetite for fun and activity.
‘’Now we get to combine both of those with Victoria’s Pet Fitness Challenge. The challenge is all about getting active and showing a little extra love to your pooch or kitty during the month of March,’’ Ms Talevski said.
‘’Commit to exercising with your pet for 15, 30 or 60 minutes every day and help us find forever homes for the dogs and cats in our care. With pet ownership soaring after two years of lockdowns, we know there are plenty of Victorians ready to take up this challenge.
“We can’t wait to see who Victoria’s fittest fur family is!’’
Having a fit pet doesn't have to mean running kilometres every day. It can be as simple as playing in the garden or throwing a ball at the local park.
‘’And of course this applies to our cat-loving community too. Cats love to climb, jump and stretch. We know obesity in our animals affects both dogs and cats; this is a great opportunity to get on the front foot and show your pets some extra love, care and attention,’’ Ms Talevski said.
