The oval will soon see the inclusion of brand new female change rooms, toilets and showers.
Mayor Chris Bilkey said the new amenities were much needed.
“The inclusion of the female amenities on the site is long overdue, so we are so pleased that we can now deliver another important addition to our ever-growing reserve area,” Cr Bilkey said.
“Our local recreation reserves are the heart of community sport in our towns, so all these improvements go a long way to increasing participation in local activities.”
The existing facilities at Jack Eddy Oval were constructed 20 years ago and only have single change rooms that do not offer separate areas for males and females to change or shower.
This has restricted mixed activities, such as soccer, athletics, football and school carnivals.
According to Murray River Council, feedback from users of the Moama Recreation Reserve highlighted the lack of suitable female facilities at Jack Eddy Oval as being a major barrier for female participation in sports.
This was also impacting on the expansion and growth of local clubs.
Council believes the new facility will support further inclusion and accessibility for all users.
The council has been successful in acquiring $400,000 to go towards the project.
Council will be completing numerous other projects at Jack Eddy Oval.
Among the list of refurbishments will be the installation of new oval lighting, improved access to the oval, and upgrades to car parking, fencing, seating, ground extension and landscaping.
Other minor interior renovations are expected to be completed in the existing change rooms.
The funding for the project has been obtained under round four of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
Upgrades are expected to be completed in the coming months.
