Kate Freshwater Lawyers, led by principal lawyer and accredited criminal law specialist Kate Freshwater, will host the sessions at the Echuca Back Nine Golf Course.
The first session on Thursday, May 22 at 11am, ‘Understanding bail decisions in the Courts’, is tailored to provide guidance on how courts make decisions regarding bail, whether you are navigating your own criminal law matter, supporting someone else or simply curious about how the courts make bail decisions.
“There has been a lot of media coverage about changes in Victoria's bail laws,” Ms Freshwater, who has been practising law for 14 years and running her Echuca practice for seven years, said.
“The session is about engaging the community in how bail works, and what the court takes into account when setting bail.
“We will discuss community concerns about why people get bail when charged with serious offences.”
The second session on Friday, May 23 at 11am is tailored to provide guidance on how courts make decisions in property and parenting matters.
“The session on property and parenting matters is about educating the community with general information about the usual process regarding property matters and negotiating parenting arrangements after a separation,” Ms Freshwater said.
Both sessions are free and open to anyone navigating legal matters, supporting others through legal processes, or interested in understanding court procedures.
Light refreshments will be provided, and attendees will have opportunities to ask questions.
