The Bulldogs got most of their work done early at Leitchville Recreation Reserve, building an 18-point lead in the first quarter of what would be a 21-point win .
North Bendigo, the undefeated leader of Heathcote District League, scored 3.1 (19), but kept the Bombers to a single point for the period.
The Bulldogs stretched the lead by another goal in the second, putting together 2.2 to L-G’s 1.3.
It was slow going after half-time for both sides, each managing one major a quarter after the main break, but North’s work was done and picked up the four points 7.6 (48) to 3.9 (27).
On a day where both attacks were routinely bogged down, North Bendigo’s Darcy Richards was the only man to kick multiple goals (2).
For L-G, Tom Brereton, Max Hagan and Christopher Horman contributed the goals.
The Bombers (fifth) are hanging around the mid table as the season hits its midway point, a game and a half back from the top four.
With everyone having now played each other, the current ladder is a good indication of where things might stand come the post-season, as teams complete reverse fixtures against the eight other sides in the back half of the year.
Leitchville-Gunbower’s next game is the second iteration of the grand final rematch against White Hills, although both sides are in a much different position this year.
The Bombers won the first meeting 96-58, this week’s game to be held at Gunbower Recreation Reserve.
