Round 13 of Picola District Netball League had the Timbercutters host Rennie at Mathoura Recreation Reserve.
The Grasshoppers had logged four wins this season and posed a significant challenge to the winless Cutters, but Mathoura rose to the occasion for a heart-stopping 42-40 win.
Individual quarter statistics weren’t available at the time of writing.
In a difficult year for Mathoura, the win marks the only success in top-grade football or netball for 2025.
After two weeks off with a team and then a general bye, Mathoura will look to make it two in a row as it faces the league’s only winless side, Blighty.
Picola United had a less positive round 13, dominated by one of the league’s top sides.
Tocumwal showed too much quality for the Blues on the Bloods’ home court.
The first half wasn’t a complete whitewash and Picola trailed by only six at quarter-time and eight at the half.
The second half hour was a different story and Tocumwal scored quickly and in bunches, eventually rolling the Blues 67-26.
United (3-8) has no reprieve this week, hosting another of the league’s best in Katamatite (9-2).
