The Inner Wheel Echuca Club raised over $800 on Monday, June 30 to help fund local community groups in need of a helping hand.
The club invited guests to a morning tea at the Echuca library for $10 per person, and saw over 60 guests attend on the day.
Guests were able to enjoy a spread of homemade treats such as scones, slices and many more baked goods.
Club president Dianne Owen said the event had received a positive response from guests.
“(Guests) were enjoying catching up with people, perhaps they hadn’t seen for a long while or just meeting new people — It was just a very social occasion and everybody just sat around and chatted,” she said.
“It was really, really successful, and everyone commented on how good the food was... the feedback from everybody was very positive.”
The initial morning tea aimed to help raise funds for local charities and groups such as the Echuca Neighbourhood House.
The group got together and spontaneously decided to put on a morning tea as it was a quick and easy event to plan and host.
Ms Owen said while last year's event was a success, this year's success has confirmed it will become an annual event.
“The plan is that we'll turn it into an annual event at the end of June each year, and hopefully, it will continue to be something that people will mark on their calendar,” she said.
“You never know after the first year whether it was just a one-off, but we thought we did better than last year and certainly had a lot of repeat visitors.”
There was also a raffle held on the day with four prizes going to Gwen McGillivray, Nanette Martin, Jan Wills and Pam Thompson.
The club will meet early next week to decide on which charity or community group the funds will be donated to.
