Division One- Round Three
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
There were no real surprises in division 1, although Recyclables 7-4 win over the more experienced Shoeless would have raised a few eyebrows.
Misfits bouncing back from their loss last week took an early lead against Locky Lightning winning the first three sets.
The match after that was fairly even, but Locky Lightning weren’t able to make any inroads.
The match ended with Misfits taking a 7-4 win.
In the final game, P*ssheads won the teams game against Hasbeens in a real nail-biter that seesawed from the first dart to come away with a 6-5 win.
Hasbeens had a shot at a peg in the team’s game, but it was Darren Manners who stepped up to take out the 60 peg to leave Hasbeens stranded on 10.
Will Broucek, Mark Murley, Darren Manners and Max Crilly all threw 7 tons each, but once again the field was led by Michael Bajowski with 10.
Jodie Oakley threw the only ladies ton.
Three players threw averages in the 20s: Michael Bajowski with 25.37, Darren Manners 24.44 and Mark Murley with 20.27.
The shortest game in a very quick 16 darts was thrown by Will Broucek.
There were two ton plus finishes: Darren Manners with 132 and Paul Seaton 121. Outstanding.
Three 180s were thrown, one each by Chris Gritty, Will Broucek and Marcus McKenner.
Division Two- Round Two
Ocheholics had no problems against Pastoral Warriors winning 8-3.
The game started evenly with the score hitting 2-all, but the Ocheholics won the next three sets to take it to 5-2.
Geoff Ward won the next set for the Warriors, but that’s where the fightback stopped.
Ocheholics continued their good form to run out easy winners.
Bull Hitters, playing their first match of the season, fell well short of the Tonny Travellers.
Bull Hitters actually won the first three sets to take it to a 3-0 lead, but it was all downhill from there.
The Travellers won all the remaining eight sets to give themselves a convincing 8-3 win.
In the closest match of the round, Pastoral Phoenix deprived No Bulls Hit of their first win in a 6-5 teams game result.
The match itself was nip and tuck all the way.
Phoenix took a 5-4 lead and looked like it was all over, but Rob Vesty won the next set against Peter Beall to force the teams game.
The teams game touch and go all the way.
Both teams had many darts to win, and the pressure would have been immense.
The game eventually went Phoenix’s way when Chris Beall hit double 2 to seal the win.
Pastoral Pirates had the bye.
Bull Hitters’ Kodye Clark had a good night out, hitting nine tons, while the closest to him was Brian Crilly with 6.
However, the roles were reversed in the averages as Brian had a 19.09, and Kodye 18.02.
Brian shared the shortest game with Geoff Ward, pegging out in 20 darts.
The highest, and only ton plus finish of 101, went to Karlo Torlao.
Greg Williams threw an impressive outshot with 97, while Cheyanne Clark had the highest ladies' peg with 78.
Penny Gritty threw the most ladies tons with four, and Dolly Dunne had the best ladies average with 14.68.
Keep an eye on Karlo, he’s relatively new to the game and I think he’s got a great darting future in front of him.
Junior/Senior Doubles Event
In an effort to encourage more juniors to play, a Senior/Junior event is being proposed.
Ideally, it would be parent/child, grandparent/grandchild, it doesn’t really matter.
As many existing players do not have junior aged children, the event would be open to any pairing providing you meet the Junior/Senior criteria, i.e. Junior under-18 at time of event and a Senior over 18.
Alternatively, two juniors could play together if they wished.
You could partner with a niece or nephew, your next-door neighbour’s kids, virtually anyone.
If we have enough juniors coming along, we’ll look at running solely junior events in the future.
The event would be open to all members of the public and could be a one-off event or run regularly, perhaps once every couple of months on a Sunday afternoon.
Responsible adults who hold Working With Children certificates will be in attendance at these events.
Mixed Doubles
Due to the popularity of this event, and in an effort to encourage more ladies to join our sport, we will be running another mixed doubles championship on December 3, the Wednesday following the Winter Season Grand Finals.
The event will most likely be held at the Tongala Recreational Reserve, subject to availability. EMDA membership not required.
Presentation Day
Anyone with ideas for presentation day should forward them to the committee via the EMDA email emdartsassoc@gmail.com as soon as possible.
Some suggestions were the MV Maryanne, the Woodcutters at Picnic Point and the Beer Shed. Keep in mind travel requirements.
It was also discussed at the meeting that presentation day could be held in the new year to avoid venue conflicts with other organisations, and members attending work Christmas parties.
Monday Night Grand Prix
There’s been a call to try and reintroduce the Grand Prix League.
The proposed start date is Monday, August 11.
Again, this will depend on the interest shown. It was a very disappointing effort earlier this year.
I’m asking for anyone interested to show that interest by leaving a comment on this report on the association Facebook page. No response, no event.
EMDA Association Shirts
If anyone wishes to order an EMDA playing shirt, they should contact the secretary with their shirt size.
The cost of shirts is $35, payable when ordering.
When there are sufficient requests, a batch order will be placed.
Team Photos
I still need teams to send in their photos, as I don’t have many stock photos for the write-ups.
Australian Championships
The Victorian Ladies team have taken out the Teams Event at 2025 Australian Darts Championship held at Birkdale, Queensland.
Local players Joanne Hadley and Janine Cassar along with Betty Higgins as Captain, were part of the team.
Jo also won the Ladies Pacific Masters, beating fellow Victorian, Tori Kewish in the final 5-1.
Janine was a quarter finalist going down to Tracey McDonald 3-1.
Well done ladies. You’ve done the EMDA and Victoria proud.
