On August 18, 2025, the Benalla RSL will host a special service honouring all who served in the Vietnam War.
Benalla RSL president Paul Hartland said he felt Australia needed to do all it could to honour Vietnam veterans.
“In the case of Vietnam, I think the troops that come home were that badly treated that they now deserve the respect they should have gotten at the time,” he said.
“They fought for this country just the same as the soldiers before and after them.”
The service will begin with Salvation Army Capt Ben Anderson, who will do the opening prayer and Last Post.
“Then I’ll say a few words,” Mr Hartland said.
Mr Hartland said there were lots of families and younger people at the RSL’s Korean War service, and he hoped to see a good turnout again.
“As I said, the Vietnam veterans weren't treated very well, days like Sunday, August 18 we can do our best to rectify that,” he said.
The service will be held at the Benalla Cenotaph from 10am, with attendees asked to arrive 15 minutes early.
The bench seating in front of the cenotaph will be reserved for veterans.
