A prisoner who escaped custody while receiving medical treatment in Hobart has been caught by police after several days on the run.
Dale Howlett left the Royal Hobart Hospital around 3.30pm on Friday and was captured on CCTV running barefoot at the city's waterfront later that afternoon.
"The man who reportedly escaped from prison custody ... has been arrested a short time ago," Tasmania Police said in a statement on Tuesday morning.
"Police would like to thank the Tasmanian community for their assistance and cooperation during the search effort."
Police had earlier raised concerns about Howlett's experience living in the bush and said he may try to acquire supplies.
Police haven't revealed where Howlett was caught. The search involved "significant police resources" including a helicopter.Â
Howlett was not considered a threat to the general public.
