The 31-year-old's inconsistent campaign had led to a two-disposal game in the qualifying final defeat to Geelong, which left the Lions' premiership defence on the brink of collapse.
Cue Smyth, the Boomers great and NBL-winning player and coach and four-time Olympian who keeps an extremely low profile at Brisbane but has been described as the Lions' "everything man".
"After the first final, when I had two touches, I had a quick chat to Phil Smyth and he talked to me about having fun and doing what you do best," Cameron told AAP.
"That's what I did in the Gold Coast game, against Collingwood and coming into (the grand final).
"I said I was just going to go out and have fun, do what I do best, put pressure on and hunt."
Cameron kicked three majors on six occasions during the home-and-away season but also went goalless nine times.
He saved his best for last, kicking an equal game-high four goals in the 47-point thrashing of Geelong in the grand final, including three in a 10-minute burst straddling three-quarter time.
It was crucial in cracking open what had been the tightest of premiership deciders, and the Lions ran away with the flag.
Each of Cameron's goals were followed by rousing renditions of 'Country Roads' as raucous Brisbane fans revelled in the two-time All-Australian's MCG heroics.
"It was different because we do it at the Gabba but at the 'G with 100,000 (people) is pretty cool," Cameron said.
"Early I thought I was getting that pressure up, sticking some tackles and getting dangerous.
"I thought if I could just put myself in good spots I could get to work."
Cameron is excited about the prospect of Brisbane getting even better as they chase a third straight flag in 2026, with key forward Oscar Allen (West Coast) and ruckman Sam Draper (Essendon) set to bolster the list.
"We have a good foundation and good culture here, and we've got some good players coming in, so I can't wait," Cameron said.
