The council’s Local Laws team are travelling through the region to identify properties that need to be cleared of fire risks.
Fire Prevention Notices can be issued by the team, instructing landowners to carry out works to minimise fire dangers.
A second inspection will be conducted after the notice expiry date to confirm the hazards identified have been removed.
If works have not been carried out, the council will employ a contractor to complete them, with the landowner required to pay.
Council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said with rainfall in recent months and warmer temperatures approaching, conditions will be ideal for potential fires.
“We all play a part to reduce the risks associated with uncontrolled fires during spring and summer,” he said.
“You can never anticipate when a fire is going to occur, so whether you live in a farming area or residential street, it is important to prepare now for the fire season.”
