After missing the finals last season, Echuca South appear hungry to get back to the pointy-end of the competition, coming out the gates firing against Leitchville-Gunbower on Saturday.

Playing on its home deck of Echuca South Recreation Reserve, the Swans lost the toss and were sent into bat.
Jayden Rosin and Clayton Watson opened up for Echuca South, with L-G snagging an early wicket as Nicholas Horman held on to a catch to dismiss the latter for a duck.

It would be quite a while before L-G would find another breakthrough, as Rosin and Asantha Singappuli put on 70 runs between them to steady the ship.
Rosin raised the bat, securing the Swans’ first half century for the season, before edging a Dallas Price delivery to the safe hands of glove-man Tyler Jones for 59.

Danger-man Rathika Rajakumara couldn’t get off the mark before being bowled by Price after three balls, with Price grabbing a third in Joel Stephens for six.
Brendan Lewis (16) was the only resistance by the Swans as L-G kept the pressure on, with Sachin Peiris (11) the only other lower order bat to score double figures.

A James Keath peach brought an end to the innings, dismissing Simon Van Duinen for two, leaving AK Gunathilaka stranded on eight not out and the Swans all out for 193.
The second innings got off to a rocky start for L-G as opener Scott Lucas was trapped in front by Echuca South’s Brendan Lewis for a seven-ball duck.

The Swans’ latest import Sachin Peiris broke through for a double in his second over of the competition, jagging the wickets of Nicholas Horman and Simon Tatt for no score.
Along with opener Tyler Jones, Jasper Hare was the only man to offer any kind of inspiration for L-G, fighting hard in the middle for his 20 runs.

Once Jones got out on 33 to Singappuli, it was game over for L-G with the side being rolled for 83 as Singappuli snared 5-15 with the ball and top scored with 64 runs in a man-of-the match performance in both innings.
Leitchville-Gunbower may be staring down the barrel of a 0-2 start, coming up against Rochester in round two, while the Swans will look to keep the good times rolling against Moama on Saturday.
