It was Nondies’ first game of the new season after having the bye in round one, winning the toss and electing to bat first at Tongala Recreation Reserve.
The visitor got off to a good start with the bat as openers Patrick Doyle and Matt Oddie put on a 34-run stand for the first wicket before the former was caught for 13 off Matt Ohlsen’s bowling.
Toby Gray joined Oddie at the crease and the pair added 40 more to the total before Adam Nunn clean-bowled the latter for 30.
From there, things fell apart for Nondies.
Seven wickets fell in as many overs, including Zeb Ellwood and Ryder van der Zande being dismissed within four balls of each other by Ohlsen.
Ninth man Matthew Robinson was the only batsman outside the top three to make more than a single run, being the last Nondies’ batsman dismissed for four.
With the visitor being rolled for 87 in 27 overs, Tongala saw a perfect opportunity to cruise to its opening win.
While Nondies got off to a good start, dismissing both Stephen Townsend (5) and Ohlsen (8) inside the first five overs, the next four batters each hit double figures to win it by committee.
Ryan Smith (12), Jayden Tucker (16) and Braith Northausen (11) all made starts before Adam Nunn (11 not out) brought it home in the 20th over.
Ohlsen’s 5-6 is easily the most efficient bowling figures so far this season, with Nunn chipping in with a 4-13.
Tongala will look to build on the momentum in round three when it comes up against a rested Bamawm-Lockington United side at Bamawm Recreation Reserve, while Nondies will look to open its account against Leitchville-Gunbower at Cohuna Recreation Reserve.
