In a rematch of Thailand's victory over Australia in the last edition of the biennial competition, Minjee Lee and Steph Kyriacou powered home to beat Channette Wannasaen and Jasmine Suwannapura 2 up at New Korea Country Club in Seoul.
World No.1 Jeeno Thitikul then partnered Pajaree Anannarukarn to a 1 up win over Hannah Green and Grace Kim to level the tie in Seoul.
With honours even, Australia remain in good shape to advance to the semi-finals ahead of their next two pool matches against the top-seeded USA and China.
With three major champions in their ranks boasting a combined five major crowns, Australia are the most accomplished team in the competition.
And world No.3 Lee showed her class with three back-nine birdies, including one at the last to seal their victory.
Back-to-back birdies from Kyriacou had put the dynamic duo ahead for the first time as they headed for the back nine.
Green and Kim ultimately fell short in a ding-dong battle in which the lead changed hands four times.
The Australians celebrated with a bum-bump after regaining the lead with a Kim birdie on the par-4 fifth hole.
Then came a fist bump after Green birdied the seventh to square the hole and keep the match all locked up after Thailand won the sixth with an Anannarukarn birdie.
Green's fifth birdie of the day on the eighth restored Team Australia's lead, but they both bogeyed No.11 to allow Thailand back on level terms.
Australian birdies dried up on the back nine as Thitikul dragged Thailand from one down with five to play to a thrilling comeback win.
Team USA lived up to their top billing with a 2-0 triumph over China to lead Pool A's "group of death" over Australia and Thailand.
Angel Yin and Yealimi Noh crushed Yan Liu and Ruoning Yin 5 & 4 before former world No.1 Lilia Vu and Lauren Coughlin combined to beat Ruixin Liu and Weiwei Zhang 1 up.
In Pool B, Team World, led by world No.4 Lydia Ko, defeated second-seeded Japan 1.5 to 0.5.
Ko and Charley Hull halved their match, with Brooke Henderson and Wei-Ling Hsu edging Team World to victory with a 2 &1 win over major champions Ayaka Furue and Mao Saigo.
And hosts South Korea scored a 1.5 to 0.5 win over Sweden.
Hyo Joo Kim and Hye-Jin Choi downed Maja Stark and Linn Grant 3 & 2 before Jin Young Ko and Haeran Ryu squared their match with Ingrid Lindblad and Madelene Sagstrom.
