Echuca Historical Society president Margaret Hart said “the water tower is an Echuca icon and should stay as it is. No paint required.”
“The tower is a historic building, it was built late 1914 to early 1915 by distinguished civil engineer Sir John Monash.”
Ms Hart said the tower was one of the earliest towers to be built with a reinforced concrete tank.
“Locals from Echuca and visitors can enjoy this prominent building for what it is, clear lines of reinforced concrete,” she said.
“The painting of this tower would not only destroy the look of the tower, parking for viewing would be most difficult, considering the location of the tower.”
Ms Hart said the tower was 108ft (32m), and “has stood tall and proud for more than 108 years”.
Echuca Historical Society hopes the tower remains in its current condition as a piece of history for all to see.
