The director of the Victorian office of the Department of Labor and Immigration, Mr Colin Wood, visited Echuca on Wednesday with two senior officers of the department.

After inspecting the new office of the Commonwealth Employment Service, he said that the new office brought the total number in Victoria to 50.
He said the new office will serve the City of Echuca and the shires of Deakin, Rochester and Nathalia.
The total population of the area was over 24,000 and the present workforce comprises 10,000 persons.

A meeting of 20 mothers and 30 young children gathered together at the new YMCA Play Group House next to the Army Barracks in Ogilvie Ave to commence operations.
Mr Alton Baker, director of the YMCA, explained how the move became available and that the success of the play group would depend on the mothers and families being totally involved in the operation.
Mr Tom Parsons, Community Development officer for the Loddon-Campaspe Regional Council for Social Development, explained to the mothers what a play group was all about.
Mr Parsons said that play groups were not an organised pre-school educational activity, not a professional creche nor a child minding centre, but it was a basis of mutual support and companionship for children and adults.

The long-awaited opening of Graincorp's new $3 million grain receival facility at Barnes Crossing, north of Moama, is expected this week.
No precise date could be given by Graincorp.
Construction of bunkers on the 108-hectare site, off Nine Mile Rd on the Cobb Highway, has been significantly delayed because of heavy spring rain, delaying earthworks.
Southern division manager for Graincorp Jack Tansley said the delay had been disappointing, but the wet weather wasn't expected at that time of the year. The delayed opening has resulted in Graincorp reinstating its bunkers on Echuca's outskirts, which were used last harvest.

Echuca under-16 girls squad team coach Jenni Watson has been named the All Australian under-18 girls coach.
The honour was bestowed upon Watson because of her success at the national championships in July.
‘’The coach is selected by Patrick Hunt, Australian Institute of Sport coaches and the national coaches,’’ Watson said.

The position is selected on the presentation and the way that the coach's team performs in the nationals.
Watson's under-18 team was successful in July, taking out the national titles.

Our politically-hamstrung police — especially highway patrol officers — have been left with just one option when car thieves, hoons and assorted law breakers put the pedal to the metal and take off from police cars.

Tragically, in real life, any criminal knows they just have to turn on the after burners in their cars, mostly stolen cars, and they are free as a bird.
Because recent Victorian Government legislation changes forbids police pursuits, which means our officers are now left to smile and wave to any crook who fails to stop.
Victoria Police will only allow officers to chase fleeing drivers when there is a threat to public safety or a serious offence committed, under a new policy for pursuits on the state’s roads.

Rich River golfers now have access to a national champion, with club pro Richard Caiolfa this week named the 2015 National Club Professional of the Year.
Caiolfa, who won the state award in March, took out the national honour in a tie with South Australian Ian Pritchard when the award was announced at the inaugural Greg Norman Medal night on the Gold Coast on Tuesday.

‘‘It was a pretty massive night, about 500 people there and some pretty amazing players,’’ Caiolfa said.
‘‘I was sitting not too far from Greg Norman and Ian Baker-Finch. And the room was full of great players so it was a good night.’’
