Kyabram’s outright win over Pine Lodge has sent the Redbacks to the top of the ladder, routing the Lodgers by an innings and 183 runs at Kyabram Recreation Reserve at the weekend.
After Jackson McLay (4-4) and Sam Langley reduced the Lodgers to 6-26 in pursuit of the Redbacks’ 285 runs, they delivered more of the same on day two with another searing showing with the ball.
Langley picked up the remaining wickets to finish with 5-25 and wrap up the Lodgers’ innings for 29 runs, sent straight back in to bat by the Redbacks as they hunted the first outright win of the season.
Pine Lodge’s second innings was improved, but it was still no match for the rampaging Kyabram bowlers.
Liam Trevaskis staunchly defended his wicket for 130 deliveries, but fell for 27, nicking off to the bowling of Langley, while Darshana Prasad Loku Hettige’s 22 was the only other score for the Lodgers in double figures.
That was again due to Langley’s influence, the Redbacks quick adding Hayden Cann, Travis Knight and Jai Brown to his list of seven scalps for the day, finishing his second-innings spell with 4-19 and match figures of 9-44.
Charlie McLay orchestrated the damage at the other end, snaring 3-13 as Pine Lodge was bundled out for 73.
With Kyabram claiming full points for the outright victory, the Redbacks have leapfrogged Central Park-St Brendan’s into top spot.
Before the red-ball cricket resumes, however, the Redbacks and the Tigers have more pressing matters to attend to.
The two clubs will contest the one-day grand final on Saturday, December 20, with the Tigers hoping to retain their white-ball crown at Kyabram Recreation Reserve.
