Following tight Twenty20 semi-finals in which the Lions and Flames defeated Moama and Echuca South, respectively, the pair will go head-to-head in the decider on Thursday night.
Bamawm-Lockington United v Moama
Bamawm-Lockington United has stunned the Goulburn Murray Cricket Twenty20 competition, defeating one-day competition ladder-leaders Moama on Thursday evening.
Playing at the fortress of Moama Recreation Reserve, the host won the toss and elected to bat.
Anthony McMahon (22) was steady at the top of the order for Moama as Russell Stockdale (4) and Kobyn James (6) went cheaply.
Jack Russell (33) top-scored for the host, as Rhys Drennan (22) and Matt Saunders (18 not out) made a late push to drag the Mowers to 8-130 from their 20 overs.
Kade Pearse was lethal with ball in hand, taking match-best figures of 3-20 and a run-out.
In the second innings, things started off roughly for the Lions as usual run scorers Regis Chakabva (5) and James Ryan (2) were brought undone early on.
However, the combination of Woody Wilson (41) and vice-captain Luke Thompson (45) all but assured victory for the visitor, before Savith Weerasinghe (16 not out) and Joel Felmingham (9 not out) put the final nail in the coffin.
Stockdale was the pick of the Moama bowlers, taking 2-32 as the host was defeated by BLU (5-136) by five wickets with three balls to spare.
With Moama out of the competition, the final will have no clear-cut favourite.
Moama v BLU
Moama 8-130 (Jack Russell 33, Anthony McMahon 22, Kade Pearse 3-20) defeated by Bamawm-Lockington United 5-136 (Luke Thompson 45, Woody Wilson 41, Russell Stockdale 2-32)
Kyabram Fire Brigade v Echuca South
After finishing the three-round Goulburn Murray Cricket Twenty20 competition on top of the ladder, Kyabram Fire Brigade has secured a spot in the final by beating Echuca South in the semi on Thursday evening.
The Flames travelled to Echuca South Recreation Reserve, with the host winning the toss and electing to bat.
It was a consistent run-making effort for the majority of Echuca South’s batters as Jayden Rosin (28), Clayton Watson (22), Asantha Singappuli (18), Rathika Rajakumara (17) and Ben Walker (29) all making starts.
However, none of them could go on and make a big dent as Fire Brigade managed to stem the flow of runs at every turn.
Almost every bowler for the Flames jagged a wicket, with Hunter Fawcett recording best figures of 2-18 as the Swans finished their 20-over stint at 6-136.
It was a rough start to the Flames’ innings, as Bohden Learmonth (6) and captain Jake Gascoyne (1) didn’t add a lot to the total.
Shannon Fleming (14) and Taylor Beard (15) were able to steady the ship before the trio of Thomas Starr (35 not out), Cooper Fawcett (39) and Miller Griffiths (20 not out) did the bulk of the scoring.
Fire Brigade was able to swallow the tail with four balls remaining in the innings with five wickets still in hand.
Singappuli (2-17) and Fletcher Good (2-36) were the only multi-wicket takers for the Swans in the innings.
BLU will host Kyabram Fire Brigade at Bamawm Recreation Reserve at 5pm on Thursday, December 18.
Kyabram Fire Brigade v Echuca South
Echuca South 6-136 (Ben Walker 29, Jayden Rosin 28, Hunter Fawcett 2-18) defeated by Kyabram Fire Brigade 5-139 (Cooper Fawcett 39, Thomas Starr 35 not out, Asantha Singappuli 2-17)
