MRGC comprises Moira, Campaspe, Loddon, Gannawarra, Swan Hill and Mildura Councils and has been working collaboratively since 2007 on the issues that affect northern Victoria.
Outgoing chair and Loddon Shire Mayor Dan Straub formally handed over leadership after a strong year of collaboration and advocacy.
At the recent meeting, Cr Straub reflected on the group’s achievements throughout 2025, highlighting its united advocacy to federal and state ministers on the ongoing impacts of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, and the need for improved delivery in partnership with local communities.
New drought co-ordinator to tackle NSW crisis
Ray Willis has been appointed as the NSW drought co-ordinator, to strengthen support for communities in southern NSW most affected by drought conditions.
Mr Willis, who brings extensive experience as general manager of Riverina Local Land Services, will provide on-ground feedback to government to help ensure support meets local needs by hearing firsthand about drought impacts and community challenges.
Support available for farmers through the NSW Government includes low-interest loans through the $250 million Drought Ready and Resilient Fund, farm management tools like MyStockPlanner, and on-ground support through Local Land Services including the Drought Adoption Officer Program.
